We all know West Marine for great gear in a lot of cities and their online store, but look at the impact boating equipment retailers are having while in the season to give!
The West Marine Fort Lauderdale Boating Superstore celebrated its grand opening by hosting a “Cruising for a Cause” event to raise money for local marine charities. In all, West Marine raised $27,800 for 13 non-profits.
“We have received a tremendous outpouring support from the community for our new flagship store and we sure appreciate it,” Geoff Eisenberg, CEO of West Marine, said in a release. “In keeping with the company’s mission of conserving marine habitats and supporting local marine non-profits, we knew that hosting Cruising for a Cause during our grand opening was a great way to give back to the community.”
Charities that benefited from “Cruising for a Cause” include the BoatU.S. Foundation, NOVA Southeastern University Oceanographic Center, the Guy Harvey Foundation, Shake-A-Leg Miami, Veterans Ocean Adventures, Freedom Waters Foundation, the Miami Dolphin Foundation, Hook the Future, the Snook & Gamefish Foundation, Hillsboro Inlet Sailing Club, Cry of the Water, The International SeaKeepers Society and Marine Industry Cares.
